Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine with a guide

Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine with a guide

The experience

Among the experiences we compare, it is the most reviewed: over 93,000 travelers have rated it on GetYourGuide, with an average of 4.8 out of 5. The price includes the official ticket Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine from €18, the guide and the headsets. With the Arena option the ticket becomes the €24 one and the visit goes down to the arena floor. Cancellation is free up to 3 days before, not up to 24 hours like the other tours.

According to the listing, you spend one and a half hours inside the Colosseum. The guide tells the stories of gladiator fights, naval battles and animal hunts, shows that could last up to 100 days. Then half an hour in the Roman Forum, which the listing calls the part preferred by almost everyone, and half an hour on the Palatine, with views from the emperors' palace. On your own, it’s easy to get lost between areas; with a guide, you won’t.

Two practical things. When booking, you need the full official name and date of birth of each participant, because the ticket is named. And security checks remain for everyone: according to reviews, there can be a bit of a wait even with a reserved entry during peak hours. The tour is not suitable for those with mobility issues or wheelchair users.

  • The official €18 ticket is already included, as is the €24 one with the Arena if you choose the option
  • A guide for the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine, with headsets
  • The Arena floor, twenty extra minutes, only with the option
  • The panoramic views from the emperors' palace on the Palatine
  • Free cancellation up to 3 days before

How it works

  1. At bookingNames and dates of birth

For each participant, enter the full name as on the ID and the date of birth. According to the listing, without these details, entry to the monument will be denied.

  2. Meeting pointThe point for your option

The listing provides two different starting points, depending on the chosen option: the correct one is in the confirmation. Then there are the security checks, the same for everyone.

  3. 1.5 hoursInside the Colosseum

The heart of the tour. The guide explains how the amphitheater worked and what happened during the shows, and with the headsets you can hear them even if you’re not right next to them.

  4. 20 minutes, on requestThe Arena floor

Only with the Arena option, for a fee: you walk on the floor where the gladiators fought, with the official €24 ticket included.

  5. 30 minutesThe Roman Forum

You exit the Colosseum and enter the Forum, the political, commercial and religious center of ancient Rome. Among the scattered ruins, a guide really makes a difference here.

  6. 30 minutesThe Palatine

The last stop on the itinerary is the hill linked to the legends about the founding of Rome. From above, you can see the entire Forum.

What travelers say

★★★★★

Excellent visit, and our guide Rafaela was an expert. What better way to visit the Colosseum and the Forum than with an archaeologist!

Our guide Jan was excellent. He explained things clearly and interestingly. We kept a good pace without rushing and managed to see other areas too. Great visit.

★★★★★

Our guide Natalia was brilliant. With the headsets we could hear her even when we weren’t next to her. There were a lot of people and some waiting at security checks, but it couldn’t be avoided even with skip-the-line tickets. [...] With all Natalia knows about ancient Rome, the visit makes much more sense.

★★★★★

Leo was fantastic… he adapted the pace for a nearly 4-year-old child and was engaging and brilliant from start to finish. Thank you Leo!

Tips before booking

  • Colosseum tickets are named and at the entrance they check your ID: bring your passport or original ID card. If the name doesn’t match, entry will be refused.
  • From 25 October 2026 to 28 February 2027 the Colosseum Archaeological Park closes at 16:30, with last entry at 15:30: in winter a morning start is advisable.
  • Comfortable shoes, which the listing includes among things to bring: there’s a lot of walking between the Forum and the Palatine. Large suitcases, glass objects, sprays and animals are not allowed.
  • EU citizens aged 18 to 25 have the official reduced ticket at €2, and under 18 it’s free: all the rates are in the 2026 ticket guide.
  • The Colosseum is the ideal first day of a short trip: the full plan is in Rome in 3 days.
